LECCE
This Baroque capital is a city rich with history and culture. The architecture of its churches represents the clearest example of what is known as Baroque from Puglia: an artistic experience spread in many small centers of Salento.
At Lecce, you will admire the extraordinary facade of the Basilica di Santa Croce. It's style was created thanks to the malleability of calcareous rocks and by the extraordinary genius of artists, that can also be seen in the shapes and beautiful decorations of Palazzo Marrese, the Duomo and the churches of Santa Chiara and Rosario.
Going past the abundant Baroque styles, Lecce is a vivacious city, with trendy clubs and splendid restaurants that liven up the evenings of brilliant young people made up of designers, young businessmen and women and numerous students. An area of Salento worth visiting during your trip.
THE COAST
Just a few kilometers from Otranto, going up along the coast towards north, you can see the uncontaminated landscapes that have made Puglia famous all over the world. Sandy beaches and crystal clear waters lapping on little bays, spectacular sceneries, all perfect places for unforgettable excursions.
From the sweet waters of the Alimini Lakes, that meet the sea in front of magnificent beaches equipped with all comforts, to the sandy inlets of the Baia dei Turchi, from the caves of Baia del Mulino to the coastline's rocky masses of Torre dell'Orso, the coast is a true paradise for nature and sea lovers.
The enchantment continues with the striking inlet of Sant'Andrea, dominated by the lighthouse and close to a cute little fisherman's wharf set between inlets and rocks; do not forget to visit the remains of Castello di Roca Vecchia. Once an inaccessible outpost used for defending the coast during the siege of Otranto in 1480 and then an age-old hideout for Saracen pirates that extends towards the sea.
Going south the landscape changes. No more white and crumbling rocks of the Northern coastline but instead rocky cliffs rich with caves created by nature such as the Baia dell'Orte, the Fiordo di Porto Badisco, the inlet of Sant'Emiliano, the Grotta dei Cervi and the Grotta della Zinzulusa.
