Location
Hotel Palazzo Papaleo is in the heart of Otranto, inside the historic center, considered one of Puglia's most beautiful areas. Strolling along its stone paved alleyways, you will be left spellbound by the view of the bay of Otranto and Byzantine contours of the X century Church of San Pietro.
A short distance from our residence rises the Cathedral dell'Annunziata, adorned with the famous Renaissance rose window and magnificent Baroque decorations. Inside it preserves an XII century mosaic that covers the entire 500 meter floor.
After having admired the works in the Diocesano Museum's picture gallery, walk along the walls of Castello Aragonese, the city's age-old bastion; go to the Pelasgi bastions: jutting out towards the sea, an ideal place for an evening drink or for a romantic stroll under the moonlight.
In the city's immediate vicinity, along the coast road heading south, visit the ruins of theAbbazia di San Nicola di Casole; an ancient medieval monastic center, immersed in a timeless atmosphere.
How to reach us
By car.
Take the Brindisi-Lecce highway and follow the directions for Maglie-Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca; exit heading towards Otranto, pass the town of Palmariggi by driving on Strada Statale 16 "Adriatica" for about 10 kilometers. Turn right following the road along the viaduct for 2 km. Turn right again keeping level with strada statale 173's (state road) flyover heading towards downtown, get on via Antonio Primaldo. Once downtown, turn left onto via San Francesco di Paola, then right onto via Vittorio Emanuele and immediately left arriving on Lungomare degli Eroi; to your right, via della Basilica will take you to number 1 of via Rondachi, where Hotel Palazzo Papaleo awaits you.Â
By train
From the station of Lecce take Ferrovie del Sud Est's local line that in about 1 hour will take you to Otranto. Hotel Palazzo Papaleo is in via Rondachi n. 1, 500 meters away from the local train station.
By plane.
Brindisi's "Papola Casale" airport is about 85 km from Otranto and is connected with Lecce and its provinces by local buses and trains; taxi service and car rentals are available at the airport as well.
